Despite Winston Churchill's (Brendan Gleeson) shrewd leadership and inspiring rhetoric, he faced a challenge to his position as Prime Minister at in the early days of WWII. Fortunately he won re-election and continued to lead England and the world to the end of the brutal war only to lose in the challenge after the war.

Janet McTeer portrays Clementine Churchill. Others appearing include Len Carious as President Roosevelt, Iain Glen as King Edward VI, Patrick Melanide as Major General Bernard Montgomery, and James D'Arcy as Jack Colville.

This film is a sequel to The Gathering Storm.

Gleeson won an Emmy for his portrayal; McTeer and Carious were nominated.
