Billy Bathgate (1991)

"What do you think the odds are I’ll beat this rap?"
Billy Bathgate (Loren Dean) is an ambitious young man. He's drawn to money, power, and glamour and falls in with gangster Dutch Schultz (Dustin Hoffman) and his gang of thugs during Schultz's rise and eventual fall and finds himself struggling with issues of trust, brutal death, and survival.
The all-star cast includes Bruce Willis as Schultz's main man Bo who betrays Schultz; Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Preston who was first Bo's girlfriend and then Schultz's; Steven Hill, Steve Buscemi, Kevin Corrigan, and Billy Maye as some of Schultz's goonies and henchmen; Stanley Tucci as gangster Lucky Luciano; and Frances Conroy as Billy's mother.
Directed by Robert Benton from a screenplay by Tom Stoppard based on a book by E.L Doctorow.
Run time: 1 hour, 46 minutes
Rated R for gangster violence, nudity and language.
My personal rating: B
