The Memory Keeper's Daughter (2008)

.
"She's bright and happy...which is not what you predicted."

Dr. David Henry (Dermot Mulroney) is haunted by images of his mother's pain through the short life of her little girl who had a birth defect. When a blizzard prevents him from getting his pregnant wife Norah (Gretchen Mol) to the hospital, David and his nurse Caroline (Emily Watson) prepare to delivery the baby in his office at home.

A fine healthy baby boy is born but then a baby girl with Down Syndrome is born. Wanting to spare Norah the pain his mother had, he asks Caroline, without Norah's knowledge, to take the baby to a nearby facility for babies who are retarded. He is certain the child will not live long.

Caroline takes the baby but cannot part with little Phoebe so she raises the child herself as David and Norah raise baby Paul.

But 20-some years later, the whole story is revealed.

Also appearing are Krystal Hope Nausbaum as the young adult Phoebe; Hugh Thompson as Caroline's boyfriend; and Jamie Spilchuk as the young adult Paul.

Directed by Mick Jackson. This movie was made for television.

Not rated by MPAA.

My personal rating: C+
