.
This is the ongoing story about three young Catholic women, sisters, in Liverpool in the early 1920s.
Ruby (Kerrie Hayes) is a corset fitter, May (Leanne Rowe) is a parlormaid who later becomes the housekeeper for the priest, and Iris (Catherine Tyldesley) is the homemaker for the family and also makes fine chocolates at home which are sold in a local shop.
Their widowed Protestant father (Brian McCardie) is a hard drinker and sometimes prone to violence. Their brother Billy (Daniel Rigby) returned from the Great War shell shocked and feeling guilty about the death of their younger brother in the war. Scot Williams is the parish priest, Stephen Moyer is May's romantic interest, and Iain McKee is a young man in the neighborhood who has always know the family.
Wonderful feeling of the '20s with exquisite attention to detail and charming music reminiscent of the era.
Unfortunately this series only ran eight episodes on BBC in 2007 and was then canceled. I'm sure if it had a longer run, I would have loved it as much as I loved Ballykissangel and Monarch of the Glen. I saw great potential for many further episodes and can only hope the BBC will reconsider and begin filming again.
My personal rating: B
