Hysterical Blindness (2002)

.
Looking For Love In All the Wrong Places

Set in New Jersey working class neighborhood in the 1980s, best friends Debby (Uma Thurman) and Beth (Juliette Lewis) often hang out at their favorite bar looking for men. As they approach 30, they're feeling desperation about still being single.

One night, rugged Rick (Justin Chambers) eyes Beth but Debby ends up persuing him pretty aggressively. Beth's style is cramped because she has a pre-teen daughter, Amber (Jolie Peters), but eventually she yields to the flirtation of Bobby (Anthony DeSanto) the bartender. Meanwhile, Debby's long-single mother (Gena Rowlands), a waitress at the cafe, meets a charming widower (Ben Gazzara) and sparks begin.

But when tragedy strikes and hearts are broken, the three women learn a lot about themselves, each other, the relationships, and what is really important in life.

Directed by Mira Nair.
