Man on Fire (2004)

.
"I am the sheep that got lost."

Creasy (Denzel Washington) is a tormented, hard-drinking has-been CIA operative. When he visits his friend Rayburn (Christopher Walken) in Mexico, Creasy is in a hopeless condition but Rayburn encourages him to get a job as a bodyguard because kidnapping is so prevalent in Latin America.

In short order, Creasy secures a job guarding the young daughter of a Mexican industrialist and his American wife (Mark Anthony, Radha Mitchell)

The child, Pita (Dakota Fanning) has Creasy figured out right away despite Creasy's insistence on emotional distance from the child. But it isn't long before Pita grows on Creasy and he's helping her with her competitive swimming and school work.

Despite Creasy's best efforts, Pita is kidnapped and Creasy goes wild in his obsession for justice.

Also appearing is Mickey Rourke as the family's attorney, Roberto Sosa as the main police officer Creasy works with, and Rachel Ticotin as the reporter who covers the kidnapping.

Directed by Tony Scott.

Run time: 2 hours, 26 minutes

Rated R for language and strong violence.

My personal rating: B
